Our Malbec comes from a relatively small vineyard in the the heart of the Lodi growing region called the Mokelumne River sub-AVA. Planted in soils of predominantly sandy and sandy loam, the vines are supported by a quadrilateral T-trellis and are entirely on a drip irrigation system. Lodi's Mediterranean-styled climate of warm, dry summers, moderated by the cooling effect from the area's Delta breezes, allows for fully mature flavors and aromas to develop. This vineyard yields 35 tons of fruit each year.
Winemaker Notes:Fully mature grapes were harvested in the early morning at their peak ripeness. Whole clusters were destemmed leaving 30-40% of the fruit as whole, unblemished berries. After our Winemaker employed the saignée method to improve color and quality, the remaining berries and juice was cold soaked for 48 hours prior to fermentation. After fermentation, the berries were gently pressed leaving magnificent succulent fruit qualities and structural tannins that are evident in the finished wine. Oak aging provided additional structure and balance.
